Charlbury Cricket Club Development 07-08 |
The Development Plan For 2007-2008
Charlbury has submitted its Development Plan for the year through the Oxfordshire Cricket Board. The plan consists of twelve sections covering a mission statement and objectives, facilities, teams and membership and future plans.
The club suffered from a catastrophic flood on 21st July 2007 and much of our effort has been aimed at gaining planning consent and then rebuilding our pavilion on higher ground which is out of the flood plain.
A copy of the full development plan is available in the pavilion and also from the Youth Secretary, Geoff Lowe. This is a précis of the main points.
The Mission Statement Of The Club Is:
We provide a friendly atmosphere in which everyone is welcome to play cricket in the true spirit of the game. We intend to continually improve facilities and opportunities for all so that we become a centre for excellence in our region, for all standards of cricket.
The Main Points Of The Plan Are:
Organisation
|
|
The club has taken advantage of recent changes in legislation, allowing it to become a registered charity. This change in status allows us to claim 'GiftAid' on membership fees, maximising income whilst keeping subscriptions at an affordable level. |
|
Facilities |
Adult Teams |
To build a new pavilion in an area which will not be subject to flooding. To this end the club has increased the area of land it rents and is grateful to Lord Rotherwick of Cornbury Estate for his willing and active support of the club. |
A ladies' team was created in 2007. The club affirms its support for this team and wishes to provide incentive for ladies to participate through continuing to provide heavily discounted membership fees; structured coaching sessions and entry into the prestigious Midland Ladies' Cricket League. |
To improve facilities at the ground, especially the playing surfaces, and to maintain the club in a high standard of repair by employing a paid groundsman/club manager. |
The 1st men's team to win Division 1 of the OCA League by 2009 and the 2nd team to gain promotion to Div. 3 by 2010. We hope to create a fourth men's league team in the not too distant future and use this to provide extra opportunities for youth players to gain experience in playing adult cricket and easing the transition into the adult game. |
Youth Section |
|
The Youth Section is probably the most important in the club, in providing organised sport for young people from Charlbury and the surrounding area. The youth cricketers of today will be its players and administrators in years to come. We aim to make the whole experience rewarding for both children and their parents. To this end we will extend the youth training period by providing indoor training in September and October, and then organising indoor cricket for Under-11 and Under-13 to lead them into playing adult indoor cricket, later. Those talented players who may go onto play for district or county, will be invited to attend a club assessment day. This will follow the County assessment format and allow young players to get a feel for what standard they need to attain. Feedback will be provided on areas where players need to work, to give them the chance to improve during the season and succeed in attaining district or county squad places. |

Further Information
The Club aims to increase membership to 60 senior men, have a women's section of 20 and a Youth Section with 150 members, making best use of a new pavilion and training area. To support this increased membership, we will need to recruit 6 more coaches in the next five years, above the present number who run the Youth section. In addition a new Groundsman/Woman will be needed specifically to look after the nets and training area. A general improvement in facilities will hopefully attract more members and allow disabled cricket to be played at Charlbury.
More members need to be encouraged to participate in the running, coaching, umpiring, scoring and general maintenance of the Club if we are to succeed in our aims.
The Development Group will lay out options and make recommendations to the Management Committee, details being circulated throughout the club. The Development Plan has to be reviewed before 31st August, each year.

We provide a friendly atmosphere in which everyone is welcome to play cricket in the true spirit of the game. We intend to continually improve facilities and opportunities for all so that we become a centre for excellence in our region, for all standards of cricket.
