The Women's section at Charlbury Cricket Club has been running for approximately 17 years, initially playing friendlies against local teams. This moved on to playing league cricket in the highly competitive Women's Midlands League. We have also, in the past played in the Oxfordshire Women's Midweek League which was set up to bridge the gap between girls youth cricket and women's league cricket. This was very successful and unexpectedly gave the opportunity for some less experienced players to play in a more relaxed environment.

 

In the past, during the winter we have entered the Oxfordshire Cricket Women's Indoor Competition, which is a fast and furious tournament with players of varying experience and ability. We have also entered a Super 8s team in the league in the past, which runs at the beginning of the season and acts like a good warm up for the main league fixture, this also gives some of our less experienced players the opportunity to play in a 'slightly' less competitive environment. We have previously entered the National T20 Knockout Cup, which gives us a great opportunity to play different teams than we would normally. In 2019 we entered the inaugural Kia Summer Smash competition, where we reached the regional final.

By entering different competitions, we hope to cater for every ability from beginners to county players, from able U13 girls and upwards. We also look to play some Sunday friendlies against local or touring teams.

Charlbury is incredibly supportive of its women and girls' section. For several years now, many of our women and girls have played senior cricket for the Saturday league teams. Our past women's team captain, was also captain of our 3rd XI for many years, this provided a great link to introduce Charlbury's youth players both girls and boys to league cricket.
