Girls' Cricket

The Girls' section has been running longer than the women's. We try to enter as many competitions as we can. Many of our girls play in the youth teams and most definitely hold their own - some have played in senior Saturday league fixtures which is a great achievement.

The Girls' section has been running longer than the women's. We try to enter as many competitions as we can. Many of our girls play in the youth teams and most definitely hold their own - some have played in senior Saturday league fixtures which is a great achievement.

In the 2018 season we entered a full team of girls in the Oxfordshire Youth U13 Gauntlet Goblet competition. This was great fun, and we had wins against local rivals who will remain nameless! In 2019 we were able to enter an all-girls team in the Oxfordshire U13 League & Cup competitions, doing very well reaching the quarter final in both competitions.

We have entered the Lady Taverners T20 in the past at either the U13 or U15 age group. This is a great way for the girls to experience cricket outside of Oxfordshire, although we did tend to have to travel a fair distance for games. Girls' training for Under 13 upwards, so those at secondary school, is with the women's section both in the Winter and Summer. Details will be advertised at the relevant time. If your child is younger than U13, but is still looking to play hardball women & girls cricket, please contact us here and we can discuss the appropriate route to take.

The younger girls would normally train with the remainder of the youth section. The players are divided into age and ability groups, with each group being lead by a qualified coach. Further details will be advertised at the relevant time.

We feel that the Under 13 girls have benefited from training with the women as it has integrated them into the women's team.

As mentioned above, the older and more able girls have the opportunity to play in the women's teams. The girls are monitored during training by the coaches, and when we think they are ready, they will be invited to play in games suited to their ability, with a view to them going on to play in league games.

Our primary aim with our training and matches is for the girls to enjoy their cricket. Having said that, we continually strive to improve the training we offer the girls, so that they can reach their full potential. We are very proud of the fact that we have numerous girls who are playing development and county age group cricket.

We are also very fortunate to have several qualified coaches within our women's section and can also tap into the wealth of coaching within the club.
