On Sunday, we took on unbeaten and top of the table Oxford, securing a fantastic win against a strong opposition 🥳
Oxford won the toss and put us in to bat, with Abi and Katie opening. Solid foundations were laid, allowing both Lottie and Philippa to build on this, both scoring 50s (Lottie 64) and (Philippa 57 not out). Philippa batted patiently with the lower order batters, encouraging every player to bat with confidence against accurate bowling and then regaining their composure after a short rain break. This helped us finish on 237 off 40 overs! 💪
Onto the bowling, where Jess quickly dismissed their opening batter with an LBW. After a steady partnership from the opposition, Tally made a breakthrough and took a key wicket following tight bowling from Georgia, Megan and Lottie. Wickets then quickly followed from Lottie and Georgia(including a great caught and bowled!) Further wickets from Megan and Jess kept the pressure on as Oxford edged towards our total! 🫣
With 4 overs left to go, Oxford needed 25 to win. Up stepped Philippa and Jess, who bowled tight lines to limit the runs, which they successfully did. This left 10 runs needed to score off the final over. With anxious supporters and players looking on, the last over went for 9 runs giving us a nail biting one run victory!! 👏👏
An outstanding win for Charlbury, partially attributed to a very sharp fielding performance with special mentions to Emily, Clare and birthday girl Aysha leaves us in 3rd place just 4 points behind 2nd place Moreton, with a big game next Sunday against 4th place Falkland! 🦌
