On Sunday 28th September, Tom Eaton and Chloe Westbury were awarded their Oxfordshire Cricker Grassroots Cricket Collective Awards at St Edward’s School.
Tom & Chloe were both awarded the Unsung Hero award. ‘This category recognises those heroes who impact our game and help us make cricket happen. This could be ground staff, coaches, officials, umpires, or other volunteers’ (Oxfordshire Cricket, 2025)
“Tom does such a lot for everyone and especially the juniors at Charlbury. He is head of youth cricket and is always willing to get stuck in and do anything! He ensures there are enough coaches at training nights, coaching himself (with an age group different to his child) and he accompanies teams to fixtures, but quite often will go with a different team to that his son is playing in, so that he can support other players. He gets stuck into all aspects of club life and will turn his hand to anything, from pouring a pint to marshalling at our fireworks evening. He is also an extremely supportive player and will make sure players in any team he plays for are listened to and looked after. I think everyone at the club would agree that Tom is what we would all aspire to be like, we are lucky to have him as a member and to call him a friend.”
“Chloe runs all the social media accounts for Charlbury CC, which takes many, many hours each week to manage and create new content. This has included creating many different types of posts, including regular updates on fixtures, results and social activities, it is the place to go to, to know what is going on at the club. There have been reels created which covers all aspects of the club, from the juniors to the seniors. Chloe is very mindful of the importance of safeguarding our players and is extremely conscientious with our posting, especially when it comes to junior members. Instagram followers alone have increased to nearly 2000 over both accounts. Chloe has taken many photographs to enhance the posts that she is producing, often attending junior games and games in which she is not involved to take these photos. Chloe has also created a new website for the club, this work has taken many hours, which she has done in her own time, creating a fantastic resource for the club. She has done all this work in her own time alongside university work and playing cricket, for which the club is extremely grateful. We have also been treated to music (at change of overs, fours, sixes and fall of wickets) at home Harrell Cup and Women’s Hundred competitions, which has made the games more exciting and more of a social event.”
Chloe was also awarded the Metro Bank Champions of Girls Cricket Award. ‘The Metro Bank Champion of Girls Cricket Award category recognises a volunteer, coach or role model who has championed growing girls’ cricket at their club’ (Oxfordshire Cricket, 2025).
“Chloe has consistently organised and inspired a set of U13 girls through the winter and into the cricket season. She has really gone beyond to connect with the age group (and their parents) through playlists, fun marketing newsletters which helps build confidence and connection within the team. It’s great to see teenage girls cricket coming into its own and even competing within a mixed team too”
Congratulations to both Tom & Chloe for their nominations and awards!! A massive thank you to you both, as well as all our other fantastic volunteers that help the club to run smoothly and safely, as well as giving players & supporters an enjoyable environment to be a part of!!
